Moment of Silence

The Idaho Legislature enacted Idaho Code § 33-1639, which requires all Idaho public schools to observe a daily 60-second Moment of Silence at or near the beginning of each school day. As a public school district, Payette School District is required to comply with state law.

Each school will observe the 60-second Moment of Silence at or near the beginning of the school day. The exact time may vary slightly depending on each school’s daily schedule

Students are expected to remain quiet and respectful so that the Moment of Silence may be observed without disruption

Students are expected to participate by observing the required period of silence. They are not required to engage in any particular activity during that time or to share how they choose to use the minute.

No. District employees will supervise the Moment of Silence and ensure compliance with Idaho law. Employees will not direct students to use the time for any particular purpose.

Students are expected to follow school expectations by remaining quiet and respectful. As with any classroom expectation, staff will address disruptions in accordance with the Student Handbook and school behavior expectations.

Yes. The Daily Moment of Silence is a statewide requirement for all Idaho public schools and applies to all students enrolled in the district.
