There will be a School Board Meeting Monday, September 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Payette High School choir room.

The Payette School District is proud to offer our students a wide variety of special services to meet the academic needs of each individual student. Throughout the state of Idaho it is typical for 15-20% of students to receive intervention services. The Payette School District follows right in line with the state average. We have 10% of our students receiving Special Education services, and another 10% of our students receiving Response to Intervention (RtI) services.

What is Response to Intervention (RtI):

Response to Intervention is part of the Federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. NCLB requires that students who are not able to maintain the academic performance expected by their school be provided with Early Interveningservices to assist the student in "catching up". Payette School District has the proud distinction of being the first district in Idaho to be a K-12 Response to Intervention District. Last year we offered intervention services to 157 students district wide.

Each of the four main buildings has a specially trained team of Response to Intervention teachers. Each team consists of administration, counselors, general education teachers, and special education teachers who create an individualized plan for the student, which outlines how the team plans to assist the student in catching up.

What is Special Education

Special Education services are provided to those students who require more intensive intervention services. In order to qualify for Special Education a student must have a disability that qualifies under Idaho guidelines, and the disability must adversely affect their educational performance. Determination of a student's eligibility is made through assessments, interviews with parents, students, teachers, and administration.

Payette presently offers special education services to 173 students, which includes not only K-12 but also preschool students. Our 9 special education teachers work very hard every day to provide the highest quality education possible for each student. If you have ever had the opportunity to visit with any one of them you will know how dedicated they are to assisting the student with special needs.

If you know of a child who requires intervention or special education services and the child is between the ages of 3-21 please contact the Special Services office at (208) 642-4138. We may be reached Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
